How to Wash Fiber Optic Fabrics

Fiber optic fabrics must be washed with water and cannot be dry-cleaned. Some can be machine washed, while others must be washed by hand, depending on how the fabric is made.

Machine Wash

Some fiber optic fabrics are made with multiple soft layers that protect the optical fibers. These fabrics can be machine washed like regular clothing.

Before washing:

  • Unplug the electronic controller

  • Use the provided plastic cover to protect the USB connection

The electronic system we use is designed to be waterproof, with molded LED and wire connections for extra protection.

Hand Wash Only

Single-layer fiber optic fabrics have tightly woven optical fibers that can break if bent or twisted. These fabrics must be hand washed.

Hand Washing Steps

  1. Use clean water (20–40°C) with mild detergent

  2. Soak for 5 minutes (no strong acids or alkalis)

  3. Gently clean stained areas by hand or with a soft brush

  4. Rinse with clean water

  5. Air-dry in the shade

    • Do not tumble dry

    • Do not expose to direct sunlight

Washing fiber optic clothing is easy if done carefully. With proper care, your garment will stay bright, stylish, and long-lasting.
